Bay Laurel is a women-led, LGBTQ+ web design agency based in San Francisco. We help small businesses grow online with values-driven websites that support sales, donations, and thriving communities.
Your site might look polished, but that does not mean it works well for everyone who visits it.
Inclusive design looks beyond how a site appears and focuses on how it actually functions for real people. That includes visitors who use screen readers, rely on keyboard navigation, have low vision, process information differently, or are navigating your site under less-than-ideal conditions.
Many accessibility issues are not obvious if you are not the one affected by them. Small choices like color contrast, heading structure, link labels, or page flow can quietly make a site harder to use, easier to abandon, or impossible to navigate for some users.
Most website platforms claim they handle accessibility, but the responsibility falls on the business owner. As a result, a most sites unintentionally create barriers. That’s why we offer a small, practically priced starting point.

A practical first step toward accessibility.
We know accessibility can feel technical or unclear. These answers explain what our audit actually covers, what it does not, and how it helps you move toward a more inclusive website.
Not at all. Automated tools are useful for quickly flagging obvious code-level issues like missing alt text or contrast gaps, but they only catch a minority of possible accessibility problems. Automated scans reliably detect only a fraction of the full Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) criteria, and many issues they flag still need human review to confirm their impact. Human evaluation can flag behavior that tools simply cannot assess on their own.
This audit is designed to show you where your site currently stands and what needs to be done next, using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as the reference point. WCAG is organized into three levels. A (foundational access), AA (the most commonly expected standard), and AAA (enhanced accessibility).
Your report will clearly identify which level your site is closest to, where it falls short, and which changes would move it forward. Some sites need to address basic Level A issues first, while others are ready to upgrade from AA to stronger, more inclusive experiences at AAA.
Whether your site needs foundational fixes or targeted improvements to reach a higher standard, we can help you understand the scope and implement the right changes at a pace that makes sense for your business.
The audit focuses on your homepage and your most important priority pages. Typically this would be pages like About, Services, Contact, or conversion-oriented pages. Evaluating key pages helps reveal patterns of accessibility barriers and gives you clear, actionable insights without needing a full costly site sweep.
Yes! This is the reason we offer this service. Our goal is to make the internet a more accessible environment, one website at a time.
After your audit is delivered, you have options. Some clients take the report to their internal team or developer and use it as a clear roadmap for improvements. Others choose to work with us to implement the recommended changes and level up accessibility and usability across their site.
Either way, the audit gives you direction and a practical path forward.
Our approach is intentionally simple. We look at how your site actually works for real people and translate what we find into clear, prioritized next steps.
You share your website URL and confirm which pages you want reviewed.
We manually evaluate accessibility, readability, and usability using WCAG-informed best practices and real-world experience.
You receive a PDF report with screenshots, explanations, and prioritized recommendations.
You can use the report with your own team or apply the findings toward future work with us.
We only take on a limited number of Accessibility Audits each month so every website gets the attention it deserves.

"So many things I never even considered and would have no idea how to review on my own. They explained complicated webby things in a way that anyone can understand. Exactly what I need as a small business owner to lighten the load on myself and increase my efficiency!"
"Lindsay is exceeding my expectations in her role. She always has fresh ideas and turns projects around quickly. She has been making this process seamless and easier for me as a business owner. Her communication is timely as well as her completion of tasks."
"I was excited to get an outside perspective on a professional issue I wasn’t seeing properly. It was quite thorough and I can easily see how that level of understanding could be helpful or beneficial. I think due to the depth of the conversation after each question was asked I was able to see more of the specifics of each issue I faced."
"An outsider's perspective can really open your eyes to your potential. I was expecting to have a lot of my weaknesses pointed out, which was a scary thought. What Lindsay helped me with was actually pointing out my strengths and how to optimize them... which was a lot less scary and emotionally taxing than my fears lead me to believe. I actually feel more hopeful for my business after our call, realizing I already have the building blocks to be more successful than I currently am."
"Everything that has come up since the case study started has changed the way I feel about the future. It seems way brighter. It's challenged how I see us networking ourselves as an organization, and my role in ensuring we are transparent, and give the wider community information as to how to get involved and support. Way beyond any expectations I could have set. I feel more purposeful, more useful. And today I know way more about how to manage a business and feel extremely capable."
"Lindsay is so engaging and easy to talk to, she's full of great ideas that are specific to my needs. Her values align with mine and my business and she has a great grasp of where I'm trying to be with my business and how I can get there. There were some great ideas that I hadn't thought about and I'm excited to implement them into my strategy going forward. I now have a game plan for the upcoming year which has left me feeling optimistic when I wasn't really feeling that way beforehand."
